The CEC is proud to invite Dr. Adam Con for a choral conducting Masterclass.  

Dr. Adam Jonathan Con (簡仁翰) is a choral conductor and music educator whose work
explores the relationship between movement, gesture and choral sound. Professor of
Music at the University of Victoria and Artistic Director of Capriccio Vocal Ensemble, he
brings a kinesthetic perspective to conducting, placing bodily awareness and the energy
of sound at the centre of musical communication and transmission.
His approach draws together Tai Chi Chuan, Alexander Technique and Body Mapping,
exploring how balance, coordination and freedom of movement support expressive
conducting. His dissertation on Rodney Eichenberger’s work examines the relationship
between conducting gesture and choral response: how a conductor moves shapes what
a choir hears, feels and sings. This research connects the physical experience of
conducting with the development of an attentive, responsive ensemble.
At the University of Victoria, Dr. Con teaches graduate choral conducting and music
education. His interdisciplinary expertise has led to international invitations to conduct,
perform and present workshops, including engagements at Foro Coro Americano in
Argentina, I Foro Internacional de Educación Musical in Mexico, and the International
Society for Music Education. He has also presented at choral and music education
conferences across Canada and the United States, including Podium, the American
Choral Directors Association, GALA, and national and international Orff-Schulwerk
conferences.
